Sunshine Therapy

Although depression is something that many of us have to deal with on a regular basis, there are some of us that only have to deal with it on a temporary basis, even though we have to deal with it every year.  Often, people are depressed as a result of a lack of sunlight in their lives.  Although it is a commonly misunderstood problem, it is something that many people deal with and it is usually known as light deprivation.  What is this problem and how can it be treated naturally?

Light deprivation usually occurs during the winter months whenever the sun is hidden behind a gray veil of clouds.  It may also be possible that you are suffering from light deprivation because you are forced to be inside and do not get the required amount of sunlight in order to keep your mental attitude properly aligned.  I know that whenever I was growing up in Pennsylvania, I suffered from depression almost every winter as a result of a lack of sunlight.  It wasn’t until I moved to a tropical climate that I realized exactly how affected I was by a lack of light.

There are a number of different ways for you to be able to treat light deprivation naturally without having to move to another part of the world.  One of the most effective ways is for you to get some special lamps for use in your home that will give you many of the benefits of sunlight.  Some people find that by sitting underneath these lamps on a regular basis, they are able to overcome problems with light deprivation and to remove a lot of the depression that they feel during the long winter months.  There are also some areas which have these lamps available in a community setting.  This makes it very convenient for people who do not have access to the lamps in their home to get the same benefits.

If you find that you are missing the sunlight during the winter months and you are feeling depressed as a result, using this sunlight therapy may be able to help you overcome it.  Other than that, you can simply try to schedule some time away from your home area in the sun during these long winter months.  It may not be enough to help you to overcome your depression altogether but it certainly can make you feel better for the short term.

3 Natural Cures for Depression

Having to deal with depression is, unfortunately, something that many of us have to do regularly.  It is something that is largely misunderstood by the medical community but those in the natural healing area are quick to point out that depression is often a matter of an imbalance of the body.  In order for you to overcome the depression that you are feeling, you need to overcome the imbalance and to treat it there.  Here are three different ways that you can naturally treat depression.  Some of these may be able to take the depression away altogether and others may help you to be able to cope with it while you treat it naturally in other ways.

The first, and perhaps most important way for you to treat depression naturally is by modifying your diet.  One of the main problems that we are dealing with in our diets today is the fact that we’re eating too much processed sugar and unnatural, processed foods.  By reducing the amount of processed items in our diet and replacing it with raw fruits and vegetables, we will give our body the opportunity to be able to heal itself naturally from the inside out.

Another thing that you can do which can help your body to overcome an imbalance is to make sure that you are hydrated properly.  The best way for you to be able to do this is to drink half of your body weight every day in ounces of water.  Make sure that you are also taking some natural sea salt to give the water enough time to stay in your body so that it can do its work.

Finally, you can try learning how to do some meditation and relaxation techniques that will help you to cope effectively with the depression.  One of the best ways for you to be able to do this is practice meditating and thinking off relaxing and pleasant thoughts.  Set aside time on a daily basis in order to take part in this important activity.

Although these may not be exactly what you need in order to overcome your depression altogether, they certainly are steps that can be taken which will help you along the way.  By giving your body and mind the best opportunity to heal itself, you will be taking strides towards overcoming your depression and gaining your life back.

Why Allergies May Be behind Your Depression

Although many of us have to deal with depression on a regular basis, there are many different reasons why we are dealing with it. Just as we are all individuals, we all have individual reasons why we are dealing with these problems. There may be times, however, when the depression that we are feeling gives us signs that allow us to see why we are dealing with it in the first place. These signs are typically indicative of environmental issues and could be an indication that we are dealing with the depression as a result of allergies.

There are several types of allergies that may be at the root of our depression. Being able to identify what is behind the problem is the first step in being able to overcome it. For the purpose of this article, we are going to look into two different types of allergies, food and environmental. If one of these is the culprit, it should be fairly easy to identify.

Food allergies often cause a number of different problems, including a buildup of phlegm in the body, along with some dangerous side effects. A buildup of these things in the body may also cause us to be depressed.  For example, if we are in the habit of eating sugar on a regular basis or perhaps processed foods, these chemicals can build up toxins in the body that eventually lead to being depressed.  It is a little bit difficult to be able to identify what is behind the problem, mainly because it’s not something that’s going to be changed overnight.  By stopping eating these types of foods, however, we may eventually be able to lift on mood and depression altogether.

Environmental allergies that are causing depression are often easier for us to be able to identify.  These would include such things as pollen or mold and mildew.  Often, these types of allergy driven depressive symptoms are recognized at certain times of the year whenever these allergens are in the air.  That is the reason why they are easier to identify.  By removing ourselves from these allergens during that time or perhaps by taking a natural antihistamine, such as sea salt on a regular basis, we may be able to overcome and to cope with these allergies properly.  Once we are able to overcome the problem of allergies, the depression will disappear along with it.

Vitamin B - the Wonder Pill

Many doctors consider depression to be a real mystery. They know that it occurs as a result of an imbalance in many cases but beyond that, they really only say that it is a problem that needs to be treated with the use of prescription medication. These medications can alter our feelings and thought patterns in many different ways but one thing that they are unable to do is to treat the problem from the root and to be able to cure it from there. In fact, they may cause some other problems in the form of side effects that can actually cause more problems than the problem they are trying to cure.

What if you were to find out that many people who were enslaved to these prescription medications were actually being treated for something that could have been cured with the use of a simple and totally natural pill. In fact, this simple pill was what was able to help cure my depression and anxiety attacks once and for all and the problem never returned. I’m talking about vitamin B, one of the most important vitamins that we have in our bodies for our mental health, along with being one of the vitamins that depressed individuals are often lacking in.

Medical science knows that many of the problems that cause depression are actually an imbalance in the body of some sort of another. If they were to fix the problem with a simple vitamin, many of them would quickly go out of business, especially considering the number of individuals that suffer from clinical depression. By giving them drugs that alter their minds and bodies, they not only have recurring visits from their patients, they also get to treat many of the negative side effects that are a direct result of the prescriptions that they wrote.

When you are dealing with depression, you should try to deal with it in a natural way whenever possible. Taking vitamin B, along with some other important vitamins and minerals (such as magnesium) may just help you to be able to cope with the problem. If you find the right combination that you are lacking in, you may just be able to overcome the problem completely.

Of course, there may be other problems that are behind your depression but when you are looking for a natural cure, supplementation is a great place to start. It may just help you to walk away from the problem altogether.

Meditate Your Way to a Happier You

Often, medical science is able to identify what causes many of the problems that we deal with. There are some conditions, however that are very common and it is a mystery why we have them in the first place. Depression is one of those problems, and although almost everyone has to deal with depression on a regular basis, doctors are really in the dark as to why we have to deal with the problem at all. They do know that it often occurs because of a chemical imbalance in the body and it can be either hereditary or caused by our living arrangements. For the most part, however, it remains a mystery.

That is probably one of the reasons why it seems to be such a difficult problem to treat. Many doctors will be quick to prescribe you a medication that will help with your feelings, they really have very little (if anything) that they can give you to cure the problem. In fact, many of the medications that are prescribed can actually make the condition worse, or carry some side effects that are unsavory, at best. Often, finding a natural solution to the problem is the only real way for you to overcome it, once and for all.

One thing that you can do to help with the depression in many cases is to learn some proper meditation techniques. Since there are so many different ways for you to meditate, I thought I would let you know of a type of meditation that you should avoid before letting you know of the proper way to go about doing it.

Many people say that in order to meditate properly, you need to empty your mind of all thought. While this may sound good when the instructions are given, many depressed individuals will simply gravitate to unhappy or disturbing thoughts. Instead of emptying your mind of all thought, concentrate on something that is either relaxing or upbuilding, allowing it to force all other thoughts out of your mind.

It may take a little bit of practice for you to get effective at being able to meditate in this way but once you get the hang of it, you would be surprised with how it can help you. Make sure that you schedule regular time to be able to take part in this important healing technique. Using it along with other natural cures can put you on the road to recovery.

Depression from Lack of Light

August 3rd, 2009 by admin
Respond

Although it goes without saying, depression is certainly no laughing matter. For many people, they have to deal with this illness on a regular basis, sometimes for many years. There are other people, however, that only have to deal with it on a temporary but recurring basis. This is the case with those people who live in parts of the world that have a lack of light during the colder winter months. For many of these individuals, light deprivation quickly becomes a very serious problem, one that can cause very deep rooted depression.

When I was growing up as a child in Pennsylvania, USA, I had a case of the blues every winter. It seemed that the sun would disappear for months at a time behind a gray sky and even when the sun was visible, it was too cold to be outside enjoying it. As I grew older, the usual case of the blues began to deepen and before I knew it, I was having a full blown issue with depression during the winter months. This was my first exposure to light deprivation and I was surprised with the number of people who shared the same problem with me.

I began to look for ways to overcome the depression that I was feeling and discovered that there were commercially available lights that would put off the same type of light that we were missing when we went without the sun during these months. I bought one and began to sit under it for a while in the afternoons. I soon found that my depression was starting to lift and as long as I used the lamps regularly, it would stay away. When I was unable to sit under the lights for a time because of my busy schedule, the depression would begin to creep into my life again.

I was one of the fortunate people that was able to identify what was behind my depression and to do something to take care of it. Many people go through their entire lives, living in a depressed state and not knowing what can be done about it. If you find that you get the blues during the dark winter months, however, remember that this is a type of depression that can be treated. Instead of having to live with these feelings on a regular basis, you can easily overcome them by giving your body the light that it needs.

Oil Pulling Can Change Your Mood

Depression is something that almost everybody has to deal with at some point in their lifetime.  For some people it is a natural response to a traumatic experience, such as the death of a loved one.  For others, however, it is more of a clinical problem and it is not something that is easily taken care of.  As a matter of fact, it goes far beyond simply having the blues or being sad over a situation.  Clinical depression is a long time problem that we have to deal with and if you are currently suffering from it, you’re probably looking for a way to overcome it.

One of the main problems that causes depression is an imbalance within the body.  Although there are a number of different imbalances that could occur which can cause depression, discovering the one that is responsible for your own personal case of depression is important if you’re going to treat it effectively.  Even though it could be a chemical problem within the brain that is causing the depression, it may also be a matter of toxins that have built up within the body over the course of your life.  One way for you to be able to get rid of these toxins is to cleanse them by oil pulling.

Oil pulling is a fairly simple thing to do and many people have seen dramatic results in the way that they feel simply by doing this simple chore on a daily basis.  It is important for you to choose the right type of oil, however, whenever you start doing this as some types are toxic in themselves.  Most people either go with olive, safflower or coconut oil whenever they first start out.  It is important for you to make sure that the oil was not heated and that it is organic and raw.

Set aside about 15 minutes in the morning in order to take care of the process.  Swish the oil back and forth in your mouth during his 15 minutes, being careful not to swallow the oil in the process.  As the oil is in your mouth, it will begin pulling toxins out of your bloodstream through the tissue on the inside of your mouth.  At the end of the 15 minutes, spit the oil out of your mouth either into the sink or toilet.

The Thyroid and Depression

July 28th, 2009 by admin
Respond

In the back of a large ship is the rudder and even though the rudder is proportionately smaller than the rest of the ship it is able to effectively steer it in any direction that you wish it to go.  The same is also true with the human body.  Inside the human body in the area of the neck is a small gland that controls much of the body that is known as the thyroid gland.  Whenever it is working properly, it releases various chemicals and hormones in the body in order to ensure that things are working properly.  When it is not working properly, it can cause a lot of problems in us which includes depression.

There are two different types of problems that can commonly occur with the thyroid gland.  Hypothyroidism is whenever the thyroid is not producing enough chemicals, sometimes because of tumors that are growing on the thyroid (known as Hashimoto’s disease).  Hyperthyroidism is whenever the thyroid is overproducing chemicals and commonly causes problems, such as anxiety and weight loss.  Whenever an individual is institutionalized because of mental problems one of the first things that they look at is the thyroid gland in order to see if it is causing the problem.

Typically, somebody that has a problem with their thyroid is going to be given medication in order to bring the levels within their body up to normal.  The most common type of medication that they are given is Synthroid, although this is a synthetic drug that is also a possible carcinogen.  A more natural drug that still needs to be prescribed by the doctor is Armour thyroid.  Either of these can be effective in helping somebody to overcome a lot of the negative problems that they experience with a damaged thyroid gland.

Some of the more natural ways of treating thyroid problems include iodine treatment and various dietary changes.  As a matter of fact, it is more a matter of avoiding certain types of foods then trying to eat the right types of foods.  Although it does take quite some time and a lot of effort to overcome a problem with the thyroid naturally, there are many people that have been able to do so.  If you find the right combination of natural treatments in order to take care of your own personal problem, you may be able to overcome it as well.

Is Your Morning Cup of Coffee behind Your Depression?

July 26th, 2009 by admin
Respond

Although many people might consider depression to be a simple matter of having the blues, the fact of the matter is that it is a clinical problem.  As a matter of fact, many doctors now consider depression to be something that is a long term problem and needs to be dealt with for the long term, very similar to how they deal with other problems for the lifetime of the patient.  There may be times, however, when there are things within your life that are causing the depression or perhaps causing it to be more pronounced.  For example, it could be as simple as your morning cup of coffee.

Coffee is a very common beverage that it is usually consumed in the morning but it contains an unusually strong stimulant that affects us in a number of different ways.  Some of us that drink caffeine feel as though the effect of the caffeine actually puts us in a good mood but that is short-lived.  The long term effects of caffeine may actually cause a number of different physical problems along with affecting our mental state to the point where it could make us depressed.

Not only that, it is also thought that the caffeine that we take in from coffee does not affect us immediately as many people feel as though it does.  Some people think that the caffeine may take up to four to six hours in order to affect us.  If you tend to drink coffee throughout the day, it may be affecting your sleep at night which can also have a negative affect on your mental health.  Even if you feel as though you’re not being affected by the coffee you are drinking, it is, in fact affecting you by releasing certain chemicals into the body.

The only way for you to know for sure whether your morning cup of coffee is causing your depression or not is to forgo the coffee for a period of time.  Unfortunately, this can cause some very bad effects for us including physical withdrawal that can cause headaches and a number of other uncomfortable conditions.  If you would like to give up coffee for a time you should try cutting back until you are only having 1 cup per day.  It should then be a relatively easy thing for you to give up and see if it makes a difference or not.

Are Sleep Problems behind Your Depression?

July 26th, 2009 by admin
Respond

There are two different problems that people commonly have and at times, one may be causing the other.  The first of these is sleep deprivation, either because an individual feels that they are too busy to be able to sleep on a regular basis or because of a physical problem, such as sleep apnea.  The other problem that people commonly deal with is depression and this is a lifelong problem for many individuals.  Did you realize, however, that the two of these problems may be closely interlinked and in order to overcome depression, you may have to overcome your sleep deprivation?

The first type of sleep deprivation and probably one of the most common is the fact that people tend to not sleep enough because they feel too busy to do so.  The average human needs anywhere from six to eight hours of sleep every night in order to be properly rested.  In order for you to be able to get enough sleep during the night you’re going to have to do one of two things.  Either you’re going to have to set aside enough time in order to get eight hours of solid sleep every night or you’re going to have to exercise and make your body healthy enough so that it needs less sleep.

Another type of sleep deprivation comes from physical problems that we may be experiencing.  For example, sleep apnea is a very common problem that causes a person to stop breathing during the night for several seconds at a time.  Although this doesn’t wake a person up enough that they remember waking up, it does keep them from falling into a sound sleep for any period of time.  This causes a lot of problems for individuals, including depression that is long-lasting.

If you want to overcome depression because of your sleeping problems the easiest way for you to be able to do so is to simply make sure that you are healthy enough to get a good nights sleep.  If you have a problem with carrying around additional weight, diet and exercise healthfully in order to get down to a more trim figure.  If you have a serious problem with sleep apnea you may be able to use a breathing machine which will help you to get the deep sleep that you need.  Although it is going to take effort on your part, the good sleep that you get and the lack of depression that you feel will be well worth it.
